Google+ only launched last week, and it looks like Google+ may be about to hit its first milestone of 10 million users, according to Paul Allen, the founder of Ancestry.com who has been monitoring Google+ growth.
According to Paul’s numbers, Google+ reached 7.3 unique users on the 10th of July, and it is expected to reach the 10 million mark by some time today, the 12th of July.
I project that Google will easily pass 10 million users tomorrow and could reach 20 million user by this coming weekend if they keep the Invite Button available. As one G+ user put it, it is easy to underestimate the power of exponential growth.
According to Paul’s estimate, Google+ could reach 20 million users by the weekend, which certainly seems impressive, considering the service was only launched recently.
Factors Contributing to Rapid Growth
Several factors have contributed to the rapid growth of Google+. One of the primary reasons is the integration with other Google services. Users who already have a Google account can easily join Google+ without the need for a separate registration process. This seamless integration has made it convenient for users to adopt the new platform quickly.
Another significant factor is the “Invite Button.” Initially, Google+ was available by invitation only, which created a sense of exclusivity and urgency among users. People were eager to join the platform and explore its features, leading to a rapid increase in user numbers. The viral nature of social media also played a crucial role, as users invited their friends and family, further accelerating the growth.
Unique Features of Google+
Google+ introduced several unique features that set it apart from other social media platforms at the time. One of the most notable features was “Circles,” which allowed users to organize their contacts into different groups. This feature provided users with more control over their privacy and the content they shared, as they could choose which circles could see specific posts.
Another innovative feature was “Hangouts,” a video chat service that enabled users to have group video calls with up to 10 people. This feature was particularly appealing for both personal and professional use, as it facilitated real-time communication and collaboration.
Google+ also integrated with other Google services like Google Photos, allowing users to easily share and store their photos. The platform’s emphasis on high-quality images and visual content attracted photographers and artists, contributing to its diverse user base.
As one G+ user put it, it is easy to underestimate the power of exponential growth.
The rapid growth of Google+ is a testament to the power of exponential growth in the digital age. With the right combination of features, integration, and user engagement strategies, a new platform can quickly gain traction and reach a significant user base in a short period.
