If you are looking for a cost effective mobile satellite that can be fitted into a backpack for transportation a new inflatable solution from GATR might be the perfect solution. The GATR inflatable satellite antenna is available in either 1.8m or a 2.4m diameter and uses a flexible parabolic reflector mounted at the ball’s equator. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.
When collapsed the GATR inflatable satellite weighs in at 18lbs and includes antenna, blower, inflation hoses, and hold-down plates. Larry Lowe, VP of Engineering at GATR Technologies explains:
“Our C-band terminals fit into three airline checkable cases, making this the world’s smallest footprint for a 2.4m C-band terminal,” “The size and portability of the GATR C-band terminal is perfect for situations in remote areas of Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and Africa. It is perfectly suited for operation in the mountains of Afghanistan.”
