The calculator watch weighs in at a third of the pound and is equipped with 28 buttons allowing you to work out even the most complicated calculations on your wrist for a bargain price.
The HP-01 currently up for auction is also finished in an unreleased colour, making it even more of a collector’s piece when compared to other devices of the time. The eBay description reads :
“Here we have a stainless steel high glossy HP-01 calculator watch proto-type from 1977 in
unparalleled cosmetic and working condition. Untouched since 37 years. This is a prototype of the model 1A-007 which has never been released.
There isn’t any serial number or date of manufacture on the case back. Unworn and original HP-01 watches are very hard to find nowadays since most of them are worn down and defect after almost 40 years.
The HP-01 wrist calculator was an unbelievable innovation and a highlight of miniaturization when released back in 1977.HP managed to miniaturize and integrate a pocket calculator in a wrist watch of normal size. The bracelet will fit a medium to large sized wrist and is adjustable at the clasp. Single links can easily be removed to adjust the bracelet length to fit your wrist.”
