YouTuber Anitomicals C has designed and built a custom dual screen portable desktop PC that is equipped with GTX 1080s graphics that requires no keyboard thanks to the touchscreen support. The proof of concept project ended up being a little heavier and more bulky than intended but still looks awesome. Anitomicals C explains more about the inspiration behind the project and a few of the hurdles he overcame during the build process, as well as what he would improve on in the future or with more resources.
“This was a project that I wanted to do, to fit desktop grade components into a form factor that I can bring around, including 2 monitors. I am not a professional and I highly not recommend anyone do this. A better solution would be to get a laptop, or a small form factor case like the S4 mini, and pair it with a portable screen.
It turned out to be too heavy, at 10kg or 22 pounds, and due to how big the screens are, had the dimensions of 500 x 350 x 85mm, 14.8L. I scrapped the project and went back to my lian li PCQ21 which is only 8.5litres. If I had access to cheap laptop screens and better materials, like able to draw out plans and fabricate my case parts in aluminium, the final product would be way more polished than the sorry state it is in now.
It was a fun project and I have 2 GTX 1080s that I picked up from a local miner for just 384USD each. That guy bought 40 damn GTX1080s and when the market crashed, the profits were not rolling in for him so he sold away bulk of his mining rig to people like me, but keeping all the RX VEGA 64s to himself. “
