Boss, the division of Roland mostly recognized for its legendary line of colorful guitar and bass effects pedals, has today unveiled their latest micro-recorder in the form of the Boss Micro BR-80.
The pocket-sized micro-recorder is equipped with three modes to create, record, and perform your music. These include an eight-track MTR (Multi-Track Recorder) mode, an eBand mode for onstage backing tracks and phrase training, together with a Live Rec mode for instantly capturing high-quality stereo recordings, wherever you may be.
Features and Capabilities
The Boss Micro BR-80 can be used as a stand-alone digital recorder or as an audio interface for a USB-equipped computer. It comes bundled with Cakewalk’s SONAR X1 LE DAW software for Windows, together with Wave Converter software that enables you to easily exchange data between the Micro BR-80 and Sonar X1 LE or any other DAW. This makes it an incredibly versatile tool for musicians who need to switch between different recording environments seamlessly.
The eight-track MTR mode allows for complex multi-track recording, giving musicians the ability to layer multiple instruments and vocals. This is particularly useful for solo artists who want to create full-band arrangements without needing additional musicians. The eBand mode is perfect for practice and performance, offering a library of backing tracks that can be slowed down or looped for phrase training. This feature is invaluable for guitarists and other instrumentalists looking to hone their skills.
Practical Applications
The Live Rec mode is designed for capturing high-quality stereo recordings on the go. Whether you’re at a rehearsal, a live gig, or simply jamming with friends, this mode ensures that you won’t miss a moment of inspiration. The compact size of the Micro BR-80 makes it easy to carry around, fitting comfortably in a pocket or a small bag.
In addition to its recording capabilities, the Micro BR-80 also functions as a portable practice tool. The built-in effects and amp models allow musicians to experiment with different sounds without needing additional gear. This makes it an excellent choice for musicians who travel frequently and need a reliable, all-in-one solution for recording and practice.
The device also supports SD/SDHC cards, providing ample storage for your recordings. This means you can record hours of high-quality audio without worrying about running out of space. The USB connectivity allows for easy transfer of files to your computer, making it simple to edit and mix your recordings in your preferred DAW.
