We have featured a number of great PC mods here on Geeky Gadgets over the years, but this Aztec case created by dmcgrath, adds a very unique style to his Thermaltake Level 10 GT mod PC chassis.
The Aztec Thermaltake Level 10 GT chassis mod has been created and crafted using Balsa Foam to provide the finished Mayan mod with the texture and finish of stone. Dan, the creator of the Aztec design, explains a little more about the awesome Aztec modification.
“To gain confidence with this mod, I just had to go for it. I had only around 60 days and a lot of work ahead of me. So the chassis arrived, and I tore it down to its basic parts. And my confidence grew just by seeing that thing take shape before my eyes. I was really intimidated at first. Here was this fantastic case (I had only ever owned a beige rectangular box before I started modding) and I was supposed to tear it to pieces and make something from the mess of it.”
The Inspiration Behind the Aztec Mod
The inspiration for this unique mod comes from the rich and intricate designs of the ancient Aztec civilization. The Aztecs were known for their impressive architecture, detailed carvings, and symbolic art. Dan wanted to capture this essence and bring it into the modern world of PC modding. By using Balsa Foam, he was able to carve out detailed patterns and textures that mimic the look of ancient stone carvings. This material is lightweight yet sturdy, making it an ideal choice for such a detailed project.
The Process of Creating the Aztec Mod
Creating the Aztec mod was no small feat. Dan had to meticulously plan each step to ensure that the final product would not only look amazing but also function properly. The process began with disassembling the Thermaltake Level 10 GT chassis to its basic components. This allowed Dan to work on each part individually, ensuring that every piece was perfectly crafted.
Once the chassis was disassembled, Dan began the painstaking process of carving the Balsa Foam. This involved sketching out the designs, carefully cutting and shaping the foam, and then attaching it to the chassis. Each piece had to be precisely measured and fitted to ensure a seamless look. The foam was then painted to give it the appearance of aged stone, adding to the overall authenticity of the design.
Dan’s dedication to the project is evident in the final product. The Aztec mod is not just a functional PC case; it is a work of art. The attention to detail and the craftsmanship involved in creating this mod are truly impressive.
