When Apple announced the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus smartphones, the company did not mention anything about the handsets being waterproof. This omission left many users curious about the durability of their new devices when exposed to water.
Now we get to find out if the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are waterproof in a new video put together by Zach Straley.
As we can see from the video, both handsets appear to be waterproof, and both devices appear to be working after they have been submerged in water for quite some time. This is quite surprising given that Apple has not marketed these devices as waterproof.
Testing the Limits
In the video, both devices were submerged in water for over an hour, which is pretty impressive considering that Apple has not even mentioned the device as being waterproof. This test demonstrates that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have a certain level of water resistance, which could be due to the improved sealing and construction techniques used in their design.
However, it’s important to note that water resistance is not the same as being fully waterproof. Water resistance means that the device can withstand some exposure to water, but it is not guaranteed to be impervious to water damage under all conditions. For example, prolonged exposure to water, high-pressure water jets, or submersion in deep water could still potentially damage the device.
Warranty and Precautions
Of course, if Apple did advertise the handsets as being waterproof, then it would have to fix any water-damaged handsets under warranty. By not advertising this as a feature, they don’t have to fix a device that is water-damaged. This is a crucial point for consumers to understand. While the video shows that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus can survive being submerged in water, this does not mean that users should intentionally expose their devices to water.
We would not recommend trying this at home, as if something goes wrong and your new iPhone 6S or 6S Plus does suffer water damage, it will not be covered by the warranty. It’s always best to err on the side of caution and avoid exposing your device to water whenever possible.
In addition to water resistance, there are other factors to consider when it comes to the durability of your smartphone. For example, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus also feature improved glass that is more resistant to scratches and cracks. However, no device is completely indestructible, and it’s always a good idea to use a protective case and screen protector to help safeguard your investment.
