Apple announced iOS 13 at WWDC recently, they also announced their new iPadOS which is basically iOS 13 with a range of extra features that have been designed specifically for the iPad.
We previously saw some of these features in a video and now we have another video that gives us a look at what is coming to the iPad in their next major update.
Enhanced Multitasking Capabilities
As we can see from the video, there are a number of changes to the iPad, this includes updated multitasking which looks to be a lot more user-friendly. The new multitasking features allow users to open multiple windows from the same app, making it easier to switch between tasks. For example, you can now have two notes open side by side in the Notes app or two emails in Mail. This is particularly useful for professionals who need to reference multiple documents simultaneously.
Additionally, the new Slide Over feature lets you quickly access your favorite apps without leaving the one you’re currently using. You can swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Dock, then drag an app to the side of the screen to open it in Slide Over. This makes it incredibly easy to multitask and switch between apps on the fly.
Desktop-Class Browsing with Safari
There are also significant changes to Safari on the iPad, and it will now work like a desktop browser rather than a mobile browser. This means that websites will display in their full desktop versions, providing a more robust and feature-rich browsing experience. For instance, web apps like Google Docs and WordPress will now function more effectively, allowing users to perform complex tasks that were previously difficult or impossible on a mobile browser.
Safari on iPadOS also includes a download manager, which lets you download files directly to your iPad. This is a game-changer for users who need to download and manage files on the go. The browser also supports 30 new keyboard shortcuts, making it easier to navigate and perform actions quickly.
Other Notable Features
In addition to multitasking and Safari improvements, iPadOS brings a host of other features designed to enhance the iPad experience. The new Home Screen layout allows for more apps to be displayed on each page, and you can now pin widgets to the Home Screen for quick access to information like weather, calendar events, and news headlines.
The Files app has also received a significant update, with support for external drives and SMB file sharing. This makes it easier to manage and transfer files between your iPad and other devices. You can now connect a USB drive, SD card, or even an external hard drive to your iPad and access the files directly from the Files app.
Apple Pencil has also seen improvements with iPadOS. The latency has been reduced to as low as 9 milliseconds, making it more responsive and natural to use. There are also new tools for markup and drawing, making the Apple Pencil even more versatile for creative professionals.
As yet, there are no details on when the new iPadOS software will be released. We are expecting it to land sometime in September along with the new iOS 13 software. As soon as we get some details on a release date, we will let you guys know.
