The latest netbook from Acer, the Aspire One 532 was leaked back in December, now Acer have officially announced this new Pine Trail netbook.
The Acer Aspire One 532 features a 10.1 inch WSVGA, LED backlit display with a resolution of 1024 x 600, processing comes in the form on an Intel Atom N450 processor, and memory comes in at 2GB of DDR2 RAM.
Storage is provided by a 250GB hard drive, there is also built in WiFi, a web camera, a multi format card reader, and the option to add in Bluetooth and 3G connectivity.
Design and Usability
The Acer Aspire One 532 features a 93% standard size keyboard, which makes typing more comfortable compared to other netbooks with smaller keyboards. The multi-gesture touchpad allows for intuitive navigation, supporting functions like pinch-to-zoom and two-finger scrolling. This makes it easier to browse the web, edit documents, and manage files. The netbook’s compact size and lightweight design make it highly portable, ideal for students and professionals who need to work on the go.
Performance and Connectivity
The Intel Atom N450 processor, combined with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, ensures that the Acer Aspire One 532 can handle everyday tasks such as web browsing, email, and word processing with ease. While it may not be suitable for heavy multitasking or demanding applications, it offers sufficient performance for basic computing needs. The 250GB hard drive provides ample storage for documents, photos, and media files.
Connectivity options are robust, with built-in WiFi for easy internet access and a web camera for video conferencing. The multi-format card reader allows for quick and easy transfer of files from various types of memory cards. Additionally, users have the option to add Bluetooth and 3G connectivity, enhancing the netbook’s versatility and making it a more comprehensive mobile computing solution.
The OS is provided by Windows 7 Starter Edition, which offers a user-friendly interface and compatibility with a wide range of software applications. While it lacks some of the advanced features found in higher editions of Windows 7, it is well-suited for the hardware capabilities of the Aspire One 532.
Availability and Pricing
It will be available later this month in the US and UK, although there does seem to be some difference on the pricing as it will retail in the US for $300 which is about £184 at today’s exchange rates, but if you want to buy one in the UK it is going to cost you close to £300. This price discrepancy may be due to various factors such as import taxes, shipping costs, and regional market strategies.
The Acer Aspire One 532 Netbook is now available for $299 from Amazon.
Overall, the Acer Aspire One 532 offers a solid combination of portability, performance, and connectivity options, making it a compelling choice for users seeking an affordable and reliable netbook. Whether you’re a student needing a lightweight device for taking notes and doing research, or a professional looking for a secondary device for travel, the Aspire One 532 is worth considering.
