Outlook.com Update Enables Gmail Contact Chat Support

An update for Microsoft’s Outlook.com service has been rolled out this week which has brought with it the ability for Outlook.com users to now chat with Gmail contacts directly from within the Outlook.com interface.

The new Outlook.com update now allows you to open the Messaging pane in Outlook.com or SkyDrive, to see a message that helps you set up chat with your Google contacts.

Microsoft explains: “As part of setting up the connection, you’ll see Google’s authorization flow. This is how Google helps you control which services can access your Google information. Clicking “Allow access” will allow Microsoft’s chat and contacts services to connect to Google and set up chat. You’re in control of this connection and can change it at any time”

For more information on the new Outlook.com update jump over to the Microsoft website for details, however the new Gmail chat features should be enabled the next time you login to your Outlook.com account. Enjoy!
