The new rules regarding smartphone unlocking come into place in the US from today, which means that you can now easily unlock your smartphone and switch carriers.
Last August, President Obama signed a law which made it legal to unlock your handset, and the new rules now apply from today.
If you are with one of the mobile carriers who have signed up to the CTIA’s standards then you can now easily unlock your handset.
The carriers who have signed up to the agreement include the major US ones, which is AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon, US Cellular has also signed up as are Bluegrass and Cellcom although the last two carriers do not lock their devices.
In order to unlock your handset you will need to contact your mobile carrier to have this done, you can find out how to do this on their various websites.
