Following on from the recent launch of Windows 8 on October 26th 2012, Microsoft has now released a new SkyDrive application for smartphones running its Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system.
Although it has been possible to access files stored in the SkyDrive cloud storage facility via other Microsoft applications, the new SkyDrive WP 8 app allows you to now access everything from one place.
The latest SkyDrive 3.0 for Windows Phone 8 now enables you to search your SkyDrive files and folders, and brings newly updated icons and visuals into play together with the new Windows Phone 8 support. Microsoft explains:
“SkyDrive is the place to store your files so you can access them from virtually any device. Windows Phone has built-in access to SkyDrive right from the Office and Pictures hubs. It can also automatically upload pictures that you take to SkyDrive for easy access. Now the SkyDrive app for Windows Phone makes it even easier to manage and share files—all in one place.”
Microsoft has also now added new settings for photo uploading and download size, as well as a welcome boost to upload speeds. However the Windows 7 version of the SkyDrive app is still slow in this area. The new SkyDrive WP 8 app is now available to download from the Windows Phone store now.
