Microsoft has hit a new milestone with its Windows 8 Store, there are now more than 20,000 applications for Windows 8 available to download, which means that more than 7,000 apps have been added to the Windows 8 Store in the last two weeks.
Out of the 20,000 plus apps available in the Windows 8 Store, more than 18,000 of these applications are free apps, and out of the total apps around 13,000 are available in the US, 14,000 in Canada and around 11,000 available in the UK.
It looks like Microsoft is on target to hit the 30,000 available apps by the end of the year if it continues with the current rate of adding around 500 applications per day.
Growth of the Windows 8 App Store
The rapid growth of the Windows 8 App Store is a testament to Microsoft’s commitment to expanding its ecosystem and providing a diverse range of applications for its users. The addition of 7,000 apps in just two weeks is a significant achievement, reflecting the increasing interest from developers to create applications for the Windows 8 platform. This surge in app development can be attributed to several factors, including the user-friendly interface of Windows 8, the robust development tools provided by Microsoft, and the potential for reaching a wide audience through the Windows Store.
Moreover, the availability of a large number of free apps is a strategic move by Microsoft to attract more users to its platform. Free apps often serve as a gateway for users to explore the platform and eventually invest in paid applications or services. This approach not only enhances user engagement but also encourages developers to innovate and create high-quality applications that can stand out in a competitive market.
Future Prospects and Developer Engagement
It will be interesting to see where the Windows 8 App Store is in 12 months time, as more developers start to develop applications for Windows 8. The current trend suggests a positive trajectory, with the potential for exponential growth as the platform matures and gains more traction among users and developers alike. Microsoft’s efforts to support developers through various initiatives, such as developer conferences, training programs, and comprehensive documentation, play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant developer community.
Additionally, the global reach of the Windows 8 Store, with significant app availability in regions like the US, Canada, and the UK, highlights Microsoft’s ambition to cater to a diverse and international user base. This global approach not only broadens the market for developers but also ensures that users from different regions have access to a wide range of applications tailored to their needs and preferences.
As the Windows 8 platform continues to evolve, we can expect to see more innovative applications that leverage the unique features of the operating system, such as its touch-friendly interface and seamless integration with other Microsoft services. The ongoing collaboration between Microsoft and the developer community will be instrumental in driving the success of the Windows 8 App Store and ensuring that it remains a competitive player in the app marketplace.
