Western Digital has launched its first range of solid state drives (SSD) designed for the consumer market, the Western Digitial SiliconEdge Blue SSD.
The Western Digitial SiliconEdge Blue SSD will come in a range of different sizes which include 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, and they feature the SATA 2 (3Gbps) interface.
This new range of consumer SSDs have read speeds if up to 250MBps and write speeds of up to 170MBps. According to Western Digital the new SiliconEdge Blue SSDs are designed to be rugged and can withstand knocks and bumps.
The Western Digitial SiliconEdge Blue SSDs use Western Digitals new multilevel cell flash technology, and according to Western Digital the new SSDs meet the industry standards for data integrity, compatibility and reliability.
Prices will start at $279 for the 64GB model and $999 for the 256GB, all models are now available.
