Western Digital has this week unveiled a new addition to its range of WD TV media players with the launch of the new WD TV Personal Edition media player.
The latest addition to the Western Digital range is now available to purchase for $100 throughout the US and is capable of streaming full 1080p resolution output.
The WD TV Personal Edition is also equipped with both Gigabit Ethernet and Wireless N connectivity for streaming media through your home network and supports media files in the form of MKV, MP4, MPEG-4, FLV and AVI.
Western Digital has also installed a new ‘Grid’ user interface enabling owners to customise and organise their favourite applications to suit their needs on the device’s home screen. As well as being able to create shortcuts and automatically start-up applications when the WD TV susyem is powered on. WD explains a little about the devices companion application which is supported by both iOS and Android devices:
“The WD TV Remote app improves the navigation experience for WD TV users by turning their iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or Android compatible mobile device into an advanced feature remote control for their media player. The WD TV Remote app’s advanced features allow users to more easily navigate the wide variety of digital media WD TV users enjoy on their television. “
Other features of the latest WD TV Personal Edition media player include Miracast, enabling users to wirelessly display their mobile device screen on their HDTV as well as support for rating sites Flixster and RottenTomatoes to provide you with reviews on movies and media.
