We heard recently that sales of the Apple HomePod has been much lower than expected. Now according to a recent report, Apple may be considering a cheaper version of the device.
The news comes from KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo, who has revealed that Apple may launch a lower price HomePod. The current HomePod retails for $349 which is considerably more than some of the other devices on the market like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home devices.
Apple’s device focuses more on high end audio that just being a digital assistant, this does not appear to be helping the company sell the device.
“It’s been six years since Apple introduced Siri to the market, which was way ahead of the firm’s major competitors. The massive population of iOS and macOS users is also conducive to the promotion of the voice assistant function. However, we note that for most users worldwide, Siri is not a must-have function, and Apple has not yet become a leading brand in the AI voice assistant market. We also note that HomePod has not added support for new languages in the device since launch, suggesting Apple is facing challenges in AI/voice assistant development spanning the globe; this will cap the shipments momentum of HomePod.” said Ming Chi Kuo.
It could take Apple a while to make its HomePod device popular, a lower priced model may get more people to buy the device. As yet there are no details on how much the lower price HomePod could possibly retail for.
