According to a report from Open Signal, T-Mobile is now the fastest overall LTE network in the US.
The carrier managed to easily take the top spot for 3G speed and just beat Verizon Wireless for 4G LTE speeds.
Verizon had an average download speed over LTE of 12 Mbps and T-Mobile just beat them with an average download speed of 12.3 Mbps.
T-Mobile’s Network Expansion and Improvements
T-Mobile also managed to increase their coverage in 2015 and in the fourth quarter and are now at 81 percent coverage, which is just behind AT&T. They are still a little bit away from catching up to Verizon’s coverage, which remains the most extensive in the country. However, T-Mobile’s aggressive expansion strategy has shown significant results, and they continue to close the gap.
In addition to expanding their coverage, T-Mobile has invested heavily in upgrading their network infrastructure. This includes the deployment of new technologies such as Carrier Aggregation, which allows for faster data speeds by combining multiple LTE carriers. They have also been rolling out their Extended Range LTE, which operates on the 700 MHz spectrum and provides better coverage in buildings and rural areas.
Comparing the Major US Carriers
Overall coverage of LTE has improved in the US with all of the four major US carriers now having at least 81% coverage. This is a significant milestone, as it means that the majority of Americans now have access to high-speed LTE networks regardless of their carrier.
AT&T, while not the fastest, has been known for its reliable network and extensive coverage, particularly in rural areas. They have also been focusing on enhancing their network with technologies like 5G, which promises even faster speeds and lower latency.
Sprint, on the other hand, has been lagging behind in terms of coverage and speed. However, they have been making strides in improving their network, particularly in urban areas where they have a strong presence. Sprint’s recent merger with T-Mobile is expected to further enhance their network capabilities and provide better service to their customers.
Verizon continues to be a strong competitor with the most extensive coverage and reliable service. Their focus has been on maintaining their network quality and expanding their 5G coverage. Verizon’s investment in network infrastructure has paid off, as they consistently rank high in terms of customer satisfaction and network performance.
T-Mobile’s rise to the top in terms of speed is a testament to their commitment to improving their network and providing better service to their customers. Their innovative approaches and aggressive expansion have set them apart from the competition.
The landscape of LTE coverage and speed in the US is constantly evolving. With T-Mobile leading the way in speed and making significant strides in coverage, the competition among the major carriers is fiercer than ever. Consumers stand to benefit the most from this competition, as it drives carriers to continually improve their networks and offer better service.
