Square has announced this week that his new Square contactless chip reader hardware that offers compatibility with Apple Pay will be available to purchase from Apple stores throughout the US.
As well as now being available from high street Apple Stores, the Apple Pay reader will also be available to purchase via the Apple online store priced at $49.
As well as supporting Apple’s payment system the Square hardware also supports chip-based credit and debit cards as well as other services such as Android and Samsung Pay. The Square payment reader was first launched back in November of last year and offers easy contactless payments. In addition to buying the hardware small businesses using the payment system will also need to pay Square 2.75 percent for each transaction. Square explains more:
One reader, two ways to get paid: accept Apple Pay (and other contactless payments) and EMV chip cards, too. Packed with a powerful battery, the reader connects wirelessly to iOS or Android devices. Our free point-of-sale app takes care of payments, tipping, inventory, reports, and more.
Move your line faster by accepting Apple Pay and other NFC payments. Customers simply hold their device near the reader to trigger payment. Chip cards (or EMV) are the new standard in payment cards. Chip cards are inserted into the reader, then left in place for the duration of the sale.
