Samsung has announced that it will be updating all of its 2016 SUHD TVs with a HDR+ firmware update which will bring improved HDR on their latest TVs.
The company has said that all models in their 2016 SUHD TV range will get the update by September of this year.
Enhanced Viewing Experience with HDR+
“The HDR+ function offers an exceptional HDR viewing experience to all 2016 SUHD and UHD TVs consumers,” said Jong-hee Han, Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re thrilled to share this latest advancement with our consumers to access directly on their 2016 SUHD TVs. Samsung is bringing the highest form of picture quality right to their living rooms.”
One of the biggest benefits of HDR+ is its ability to upgrade Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content to HDR-like picture quality, allowing viewers to enjoy all of their favorite content in the highest picture quality possible.
HDR+ technology is designed to enhance the contrast and color of the content being viewed, making the images more vibrant and lifelike. This is particularly beneficial for older content that was not originally produced in HDR. By converting SDR content to HDR-like quality, Samsung ensures that users can enjoy a more immersive viewing experience regardless of the original content format.
Technical Advancements and User Benefits
The HDR+ firmware update is not just about improving picture quality; it also includes several technical advancements that enhance the overall performance of the TVs. For instance, the update optimizes the brightness levels of the TV, ensuring that both the darkest and brightest scenes are displayed with greater detail and clarity. This is achieved through advanced algorithms that adjust the brightness and contrast on a frame-by-frame basis.
Moreover, the update includes improvements to the color accuracy of the TVs. Samsung’s HDR+ technology uses a wider color gamut to produce more accurate and natural colors. This means that viewers will see colors as they were meant to be seen, with more subtle gradations and less color banding.
Another significant benefit of the HDR+ update is its impact on gaming. Gamers will appreciate the enhanced picture quality and reduced input lag, which can make a big difference in fast-paced games. The improved contrast and color accuracy can also help in identifying enemies and objects in darker scenes, giving gamers a competitive edge.
Samsung has also made it easy for users to access and install the HDR+ firmware update. The update can be downloaded directly from the TV’s settings menu, and the installation process is straightforward. Once installed, users can immediately start enjoying the benefits of HDR+.
