The guys over at the Boy Genius Report are reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be available with Sprint in the US from the 14th of November for $399 with a two-year agreement.
They are also reporting that the Galaxy Tab will be available for a full retail price of $599, which does seem a little bit low compared to the UK and European pricing that we have already seen.
Features and Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Tab features a 7-inch touchscreen WSVGA display and it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo. It is also a fully functioning phone, capable of making and receiving voice and video calls, plus SMS, MMS, and email. This makes it a versatile device that combines the functionalities of a smartphone and a tablet, catering to a wide range of user needs.
There is also a 3-megapixel camera on the back for taking photos, and a VGA video camera on the front for making video calls. The rear camera is equipped with features like autofocus and LED flash, which enhance the quality of photos and videos. The front camera, although VGA, is sufficient for video conferencing and casual selfies.
The Galaxy Tab will feature a number of built-in Google services, which include Google Navigation, Google Goggles, and Google Places. It also features built-in GPS, making it an excellent device for navigation and location-based services. Google Navigation provides turn-by-turn directions, Google Goggles allows users to search the web using pictures taken with the device, and Google Places helps users discover nearby places of interest.
Additional Features and Market Impact
In addition to the core features, the Samsung Galaxy Tab supports Adobe Flash 10.1, enabling users to view rich multimedia content on the web. This is a significant advantage over some other tablets that do not support Flash. The device also comes with a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand the storage up to 32GB, which is useful for storing large amounts of data, including apps, photos, and videos.
The Galaxy Tab is powered by a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor and 512MB of RAM, ensuring smooth performance for most tasks. The battery life is also commendable, with a 4,000mAh battery that provides several hours of usage on a single charge. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and 3G, making it easy to stay connected on the go.
The launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab marks a significant milestone in the tablet market. Competing directly with the Apple iPad, the Galaxy Tab offers a smaller, more portable form factor and the flexibility of the Android operating system. The pricing strategy, especially the $399 with a two-year contract, makes it an attractive option for consumers looking for a powerful yet affordable tablet.
Moreover, the inclusion of phone capabilities sets the Galaxy Tab apart from many other tablets, providing users with a single device for both communication and entertainment. This convergence of functionalities is likely to appeal to tech-savvy consumers and professionals who need a versatile device for both work and play.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a well-rounded device that offers a compelling mix of features, performance, and value. Its entry into the market is expected to drive competition and innovation, ultimately benefiting consumers with more choices and better products.
