Researchers at the Keio University in Japan have developed a new 3D display that displays floating 3D characters that can be interacted with and touched in mid air.
The RePro3D display is made up of a glasses 3D display, a mechanically controlled model environment and a tactile interface, have a look at the video of it in action below.
“We use retro-reflective projection technology, using materials with special retro-reflective characteristics. This kind of material reflects light that enters back at the same angle it entered. Using this technology enables a display to show images at a different place from the light source.”
The researchers are hoping to build a new version of the RePro3D in the future which will allow for larger visable 3D images to be display and also interacted with.
