Range Rover have decided to show off their Range Rover Sport by making it drive up Tianmen mountain in China and also up to Heavens Gate.
The Tianmen Mountain Road, which is also known as the dragon road, features a massive 99 bends and at the end, the Range Rover Sport climbs up 999 steps at a 45-degree angle to Heavens Gate. The SUV is driven by Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Ho-Pin Tung. Have a look at the impressive video below.
The Challenge of Tianmen Mountain Road
The Tianmen Mountain Road is renowned for its treacherous and winding path, making it a formidable challenge for any vehicle. The road’s 99 bends are not just ordinary curves; they are sharp and often perilous, demanding precise control and exceptional handling from the driver and the vehicle. The Range Rover Sport, with its advanced Terrain Response system, adaptive dynamics, and powerful engine, was put to the ultimate test on this road.
Ho-Pin Tung, the driver, is no stranger to high-stakes driving. With experience in Formula E, Formula 1, and a victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tung brought a wealth of expertise to this challenge. However, even he admitted that this was one of the most demanding driving challenges he had ever faced. The combination of the road’s complexity and the subsequent climb up the 999 steps to Heavens Gate required not only skill but also immense concentration and precision.
Technological Marvel of the Range Rover Sport
The Range Rover Sport is equipped with a host of advanced technologies that made this feat possible. Its Terrain Response 2 system automatically adjusts the vehicle’s settings to optimize performance on various surfaces, ensuring maximum traction and stability. The SUV’s all-wheel-drive system and powerful engine provided the necessary power and control to navigate the steep and winding road.
Moreover, the Range Rover Sport’s lightweight aluminum architecture contributed to its agility and responsiveness, crucial factors in handling the sharp bends of the dragon road. The vehicle’s adaptive dynamics system continuously monitored the driving conditions and adjusted the suspension settings to maintain optimal comfort and control.
The climb up the 999 steps to Heavens Gate was a true test of the vehicle’s capabilities. The 45-degree incline required immense power and torque, which the Range Rover Sport delivered effortlessly. The SUV’s low-range gearbox and hill ascent control system played a pivotal role in maintaining a steady and controlled climb, ensuring that the vehicle did not lose traction or stability at any point.
Ho-Pin Tung said, “I’ve experienced Formula E, Formula 1 and won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans but this was without doubt one of the most demanding driving challenges I’ve ever faced.”
That certainly was impressive and amazing that the Range Rover managed to get to the top of Heavens Gate at the end. This achievement not only showcases the engineering prowess of the Range Rover Sport but also highlights the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in automotive performance.
