The PS Vita portable game console from Sony didn’t do as well as Sony had hoped when it first hit the market a couple years ago. One of the big problems with the portable console was its price when it launched. Most gamers just wouldn’t spend the money. Sony is now seeing a nice uptick in sales of the portable console two years after launch thanks to a couple factors.
One of the big factors is that the console is cheaper now with the price under £150. Perhaps even more important than the price cut for the Vita is the functionality it has with the PS4 game console. The PS4 has been very popular leading to shortages for the next generation console since it launched.
The big benefit of having the PS Vita and the PS4 is remote play functionality. That functionality allows the Vita owner to turn on their PS4 remotely and play games on the Vitas portable screen with the graphics power of the PS4. Vita sales reportedly grew 68% the first week the PS4 was available and sales were still up 65% the second week of PS4 availability.
