A new mini PC has been unveiled by electronics manufacturer Plater in the form of the Plater Kodlix WB1, which is expected to be made available before 2019. Designed to support options for Core i3-8145U dual-core, Core i5-8265U quad-core, or Core i7-8565U quad-core processors, the mini PC is one of the first Whiskey Lake-U systems available.
Whiskey Lake-U CPUs: An Overview
To recap, the Whiskey Lake-U CPUs are part of the same 8th generation Core processor family as the Kaby Lake Refresh U-series chips Intel launched in 2017. Although one difference is that they have integrated support for Gigabit WiFi and offer a higher turbo/boost speed for slightly better performance when compared to the Kaby CPU. This makes the Whiskey Lake-U processors particularly appealing for users who need reliable and fast wireless connectivity, as well as those who require a bit more processing power for demanding applications.
For instance, the Core i3-8145U dual-core processor is suitable for basic computing tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and media playback. On the other hand, the Core i5-8265U quad-core processor offers a balance of performance and efficiency, making it ideal for multitasking and more intensive applications like photo editing and light gaming. The Core i7-8565U quad-core processor, being the most powerful option, is designed for users who need to run demanding software, perform complex data analysis, or engage in heavy multitasking.
Features and Connectivity
Other features of the Plater Kodlix WB1 mini PC include a handy microSD card slot, 4 x USB 3.0 ports, 1 x USB Type-C port, 2 x HDMI 2.0 ports, and connectivity provided by Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0. These connectivity options ensure that the mini PC can easily connect to a wide range of peripherals and networks, making it a versatile choice for both home and office use.
The inclusion of multiple USB 3.0 ports allows users to connect high-speed external storage devices, printers, and other peripherals without compromising on data transfer speeds. The USB Type-C port adds an extra layer of convenience, as it supports faster data transfer rates and can be used to connect modern devices such as smartphones and tablets. The dual HDMI 2.0 ports enable users to set up a multi-monitor workstation, which can significantly enhance productivity by providing more screen real estate for multitasking.
The microSD card slot is a useful addition for users who need to quickly transfer data from cameras, smartphones, or other devices that use microSD cards. The Gigabit Ethernet port ensures a stable and fast wired internet connection, which is essential for tasks that require high bandwidth, such as video conferencing, online gaming, and large file downloads. The 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity options provide flexibility for wireless connections, allowing users to connect to wireless networks and Bluetooth-enabled devices with ease.
