Anyone that follows green technology will know that the LED or CCFL light bulbs are much more energy efficient than the traditional incandescent bulb is. Philips has announced a new green LED bulb that is the first replacement for the 75W incandescent bulb.
The bulb consumes only a small amount of the power that 75W bulb needs at 17W. It can also last much longer than an incandescent at a life span of about 25,000 hours. That life span is the best feature to me; I am constantly replacing bulbs around my house.
The big downside to this LED bulb is the price. When the 75W replacement LED launches in Q4 2011 it will sell for up to $45 per bulb. It would cost a small fortune to outfit a home with all LED bulbs. The light output of this bulb is 1100 lumens and it has a color temperature of 2700K.
