Some of our readers will remember the Parrot Asteroid car stereo that was announced back in January at CES. The Parrot Asteroid runs Google’s Android OS, and it comes with a GPS dongle and an optional 3G key, which will give you access to a wide range of Android apps in your car.
You will also be able to listen to music on the Parrot Asteroid from a range of different sources which include USB, SD card, the iPhone, your Android phone, and Bluetooth A2DP. Plus, there is also an FM/AM tuner with RDS.
Features and Connectivity
The Parrot Asteroid is designed to be a versatile and comprehensive in-car entertainment system. Its ability to connect to multiple devices means that you can easily switch between different music sources without any hassle. Whether you prefer to play music from a USB drive, an SD card, or directly from your smartphone, the Parrot Asteroid has you covered. The inclusion of Bluetooth A2DP allows for high-quality audio streaming from compatible devices, ensuring that your music sounds great no matter the source.
Additionally, the FM/AM tuner with RDS (Radio Data System) provides traditional radio listening options with enhanced features such as station identification and song information. This makes it easier to find and enjoy your favorite radio stations while on the go.
Android Integration and App Support
One of the standout features of the Parrot Asteroid is its integration with Google’s Android OS. This opens up a world of possibilities for in-car entertainment and functionality. With the optional 3G key, you can access a wide range of Android apps directly from your car stereo. This means you can use navigation apps, stream music from online services, check the weather, and even stay connected with social media, all from the convenience of your car’s dashboard.
The GPS dongle included with the Parrot Asteroid ensures that you have accurate and reliable navigation capabilities. Whether you’re driving in an unfamiliar city or just trying to find the quickest route to your destination, the GPS functionality will be a valuable tool.
The Parrot Asteroid will go on sale in October for $349, and there will also be an optional 3G key available, although there are no details as yet on how much the 3G key will retail for.
