Indeed, many wonders have been showcased at CES, which never fails to surprise and delight the techworld. But there are wonders and then there’s stuff no one expected, something so left field people are left no choice but to exclaim “holy cow, Batman!” Such is the Android powered Parrot Asteroid car stereo. It’s got a ton of juicy specs too. More after the jump.
Ahem! First, as indicated by the pic above, the Parrot Asteroid is a DIN-receiver with a detachable faceplate. See the physical control panel beside the touchscreen? Yup, that’s detachable.
Second, the Asteroid has no less than three USB slots and is compatible with USB drives, SD cards, iPhones, and smartphones via Bluetooth. It can even name the artist and album blasting out the speakers.
Third, to further gratify the Android faithful, the Asteroid is GPS ready and provides navigation aids. It also allows access to internet radio and features Android voice-powered options. This definitely scores astronomic on our neat-o-meter.
Fourth, it’s not only Parrot but Fujitsu, Audiovox, and Continental who are scheduled to release Android in-car Gizmos. Audiovox in particular is going to use Android for an entertainment system that includes a DVD.
Fifth and last–we totally have no idea when any of these are hitting stores or the prices that will be slapped on to them. So stay tuned for updates!
