OnePlus’s Carl Pei announced today that the company’s upcoming flagship device, the OnePlus 3, will be available for purchase without an invite from the launch day.
In case you can’t recall, all of the company’s handsets required customers to posses an invite if they are interested in picking up the handset, especially after the launch of the handset. However, things are going to change with the OnePlus 3.
We’re releasing the OnePlus 3 invite-free, right from launch day. In addition, invites are gone forever from future OnePlus product launches.
The invite system has a special place in our history. When we first started out, our team was incredibly small. We had no idea what the demand of the OnePlus One would look like. We also weren’t fans of flash sales, where there’s a risk of everything selling out immediately, forcing fans to wait indefinitely. To address this, we designed the invite system to give customers a chance to purchase a phone as soon as we had inventory ready.
The company is set to announce the OnePlus 3 at the Loop press event on June 14th with the event kicking off at 12:30PM EDT. Open sales for the handset will commence at 3PM EDT the same day.
The handset is expected to come with a 5.5-inch display sporting a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
We’ll update you as soon as the handset is officially announced by the company.
