A rumor is going around about the next generation Ford Mustang expected in 2026-2029 model year. The problem for fans is that the car is rumored to get much larger and share a platform with the Explorer. That would make the Mustang the size of a Dodge Challenger and much heavier than it is now.
The new Stang is said to use the codename S650, and a heavier, bigger car is bad news for fans. The Explorer platform it will use is said to be called the CD6 and to support all-wheel-drive. Sharing a platform would reduce development costs for Ford and anger Mustang fans.
A bigger, heavier Mustang will reportedly give Ford the room needed for fuel economy and emissions hardware. We may be looking down the gullet of the next Mustang II if this rumor is true.
