Pebble announced recently that they would have something new to launch at CES today, the 6th of January, and now some photos have appeared online of a new Pebble smartwatch, the Pebble Steel.
The current Pebble smartwatch comes with a plastic casing, and the new Pebble Steel will feature a steel casing and bracelet, plus a Gorilla Glass display.
There will apparently be two versions of the Pebble Steel, one in brushed stainless steel and one in matte black, you will also be able to choose from a range of leather straps for the devices.
Design and Build Quality
The Pebble Steel represents a significant upgrade in terms of design and build quality compared to its predecessor. The original Pebble smartwatch, with its plastic casing, was functional but lacked the premium feel that many users desire. The introduction of a steel casing not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also adds durability. The Gorilla Glass display is another notable improvement, offering better scratch resistance and a more premium look and feel.
The choice between brushed stainless steel and matte black allows users to select a style that best suits their personal taste. Additionally, the option to switch between steel and leather straps provides further customization, making the Pebble Steel a versatile accessory for both casual and formal settings.
Specifications and Features
The specifications on the Pebble Steel are expected to be the same as the existing Pebble smartwatch. This means it will likely include features such as a 1.26-inch e-paper display, Bluetooth connectivity, and compatibility with both iOS and Android devices. The e-paper display is particularly noteworthy for its excellent readability in direct sunlight and its low power consumption, which contributes to the device’s impressive battery life.
While the core specifications remain unchanged, the Pebble Steel will benefit from the robust app ecosystem that Pebble has developed. Users can access a wide range of apps for fitness tracking, notifications, and even games. The smartwatch also supports custom watch faces, allowing users to personalize their device further.
The Pebble Steel is expected to retail for around $100 more than the existing model, and should be priced at around $240. This price point positions it as a premium option within the smartwatch market, competing with other high-end devices.
The introduction of the Pebble Steel is a strategic move by Pebble to capture a broader audience. By offering a more premium product, they can appeal to users who may have been deterred by the plastic build of the original Pebble. The enhanced durability and aesthetic appeal of the Pebble Steel make it a compelling choice for those looking for a stylish yet functional smartwatch.
As soon as we get some more details on this new device we will let you guys know. The anticipation surrounding the Pebble Steel highlights the growing interest in smartwatches and wearable technology. With its blend of style, durability, and functionality, the Pebble Steel is poised to make a significant impact in the market.
