Mercedes are apparently working on a new version of their Mercedes G Class, and the 4 x 4 is set for a major makeover with a new design, that will transform the G Class into an all you vehicle.
The Mercedes G Class has been around for 35 years, in the time period, the vehicle has kept much of its original design, with subtle design changes being introduced over the years.
That is apparently about to change, and the new Mercedes G Class will apparently get a new look, although Mercedes are also looking to remain true to the heritage of the original G class, it will be interesting to see if they can pull it off.
We have to be careful with our heritage,” says Mercedes SUV boss, Andreas Zygan. “We offer something really special. Last year – the 34th – was the best ever for G-class sales. It’s amazing, and one of our idols.”
As well as a completely new look, Mercedes are looking to make the new G Class lighter than the existing model, by using aluminum, and the new vehicle will apparently be around 100mm wider than the current version.
The current Mercedes G Class weighs in at 2570KG, Mercedes are looking to reduce this weight by around 200KG, the vehicle will also get new suspension and a new modern electro mechanical steering system.
We are looking forward to see the new design for the G Class, whether Mercedes will be able to create as an iconic a design as the original, remains to be seen.
