Motorola has released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for two of its smartphones, the Moto G5 and the G5 Plus.
The update started recently and so far it has been released in Mexico, Brazil, and India. The update is being rolled out in stages, which means that not all users in these countries will receive it at the same time. You can see an official statement from the company below that was posted on the Motorola forums.
Hello everyone, I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting Oreo for your Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5. I’m happy to say that we’ve started rolling out the Oreo update in phases for the Moto G5 Plus in India and Brazil and the Moto G5 in Mexico. Please be patient as not all devices in India, Brazil, and Mexico will get the update immediately. Other regions are still pending and will get the update in the future.
Features of Android 8.0 Oreo
Android 8.0 Oreo brings a host of new features and improvements to the Moto G5 and G5 Plus. Some of the key features include:
1. Picture-in-Picture Mode: This feature allows users to multitask more efficiently by letting them watch videos in a small window while using other apps.
2. Notification Dots: Users can now see notifications directly on app icons, making it easier to stay updated without opening the app.
3. Autofill Framework: This feature simplifies the process of filling out forms by remembering login details and other information.
4. Improved Battery Life: Oreo introduces background limits on apps, which helps in conserving battery life.
5. Enhanced Security: With Google Play Protect and other security enhancements, Oreo ensures that your device is more secure than ever.
Rollout and Availability
The phased rollout approach is a common strategy used by smartphone manufacturers to ensure that any potential issues can be identified and resolved before the update is made available to a wider audience. This method helps in maintaining the stability and performance of the devices.
So far, the update has been confirmed for India, Mexico, and Brazil. Users in these regions should keep an eye on their notifications for the update prompt. If you haven’t received the update yet, you can manually check for it by going to Settings > System > System updates.
For users in other regions, the wait continues. Motorola has assured that the update will be rolled out to more countries in the near future. This staggered approach helps in managing server loads and ensures a smoother update process for everyone.
How to Prepare for the Update
Before updating your Moto G5 or G5 Plus to Android 8.0 Oreo, it’s essential to take a few preparatory steps:
1. Backup Your Data: Ensure that all your important data is backed up. This can be done using Google Drive or any other cloud storage service.
2. Charge Your Device: Make sure your phone is fully charged or at least has 50% battery life to avoid any interruptions during the update process.
3. Stable Internet Connection: Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network to download the update without any issues.
The release of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Moto G5 and G5 Plus is a significant update that brings numerous enhancements and new features. While the update is currently available in India, Mexico, and Brazil, it will soon be rolled out to other regions. Users are advised to be patient and keep an eye on their notifications for the update prompt. With features like Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Dots, and improved battery life, the Oreo update is set to enhance the overall user experience on these devices.
