Late last month we talked a bit about the new high-end luxury smartphone from Vertu called the Aster. Vertu has unveiled more details about the smartphone in the official PR for the device. We now know that the Aster will have a 5.1-inch solid sapphire crystal cover protecting the 4.7-inch full HD display. That sapphire screen cover is 117-carats.
The Vertu Aster supports GSM, 3G, and LTE 4G networks and features Dolby Digital Plus virtual surround sound. The smartphone will be made by a single craftsman and buyers will be able to customize the device with different design elements like wood or leather on the outside. Vertu will also engrave or monogram the smartphone for buyers at an extra price.
We already knew the smartphone would use a Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.3GHz. The device will also have Bluetooth 4.0 and Hassleblad certified camera components. The camera will have 13MP resolution, a sapphire crystal lens, and anti-reflection coating. Vertu will launch the Aster on October 2 in the UK, but it will be available globally. Pricing for the smartphone will start at £4,200 with customized versions selling for more.
