Micromax is becoming a popular brand in India, thanks to their Android mobiles lineup. Now, it seems that the company has teamed up with Blackberry and will preload BBM for Android on their Canvas devices.
Blackberry officially announced that Blackberry Messenger (BBM) for Android will launch on September 21st at 7AM EDT at Google Play Store, followed by the iPhone release a day later. The application will be compatible with any device running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or later. For iPhone, the user must be on iOS 6 or later for the application to work.
The folks at MicroMax also posted a teaser on their website about this new collaboration letting users know that something exciting is coming, showing a timer which we assume is the countdown for BBM launch. Deepak Mehrotra, VP, Micromax said,
We have built a strong mobile ecosystem for our users, which not only drives them to buy our products, but also builds a connection with the brand by massifying and democratizing technology in India. Bringing one of the most popular mobile messaging services with BBM on our smartphones is yet another effort to expand our bouquet of messaging services for our consumers to connect and communicate seamlessly with their loved ones. We will continue to drive innovation ensuring that our customers have preferential access to the latest and most exciting applications such as the BBM in the future as well.
In response, Blackberry India MD, Sunil Lalvani said,
BBM offers customers a highly engaging mobile messaging experience, with the assurance that your message has been delivered and read, and privacy controls that let you easily connect with people without forcing you to give out your phone number or email address. We are delighted to work with Micromax to bring BBM to their customers directly on Canvas smartphones across India.
Blackberry Messenger for Android will hit the Google Play Store in almost 12 hours. We’ll let you know as soon as the application lands in the respective app stores.
