It has been reported today by Bloomberg that Apple is planning to release a new Apple Watch that will be equipped with LTE connectivity. Enabling Apple Watch owners to leave their iPhone behind yet still have full functionality on their Apple Watch.
At the current time the Apple Watch and iPhone need to be within range of each other for the applications to synchronise, make calls and notifications to be sent from one to the other. Bloomberg reports that Intel will be making the watch’s LTE modem, and if true is a big win for Intel over Qualcomm.
At the current time the inclusion of the LTE functionality in the next Apple Watch is still just a rumour. As you might have expected no confirmation of LTE features has been confirmed by Apple has yet. You can expect more details to be announced during September when Apple unveils its new iPhones.
Although it doesn’t seem unreasonable for Apple to offer both LTE and non-LTE versions of the Watch as it does with the iPad. As always we will keep you up to date when any new information becomes available either directly from Apple or leaked sources close to the action
