LaCie has today announced the addition of Lightning 2 connectors to its high-end storage solutions as well as announcing the arrival of the 2big, 5big, and 8big storage products using 6TB HDDs.
Offering huge storage solutions for users with 12TB in the 2-drive 2big, 30TB in the 5big, and 48TB in the 8big rackmounted version that LaCie says is its first rackmounted Thunderbolt 2 connect storage they have created.
Enhanced Performance and Speed
LaCie has also revealed in its press release today that the 2big transfers data at up to 420MB/sec with its two Thunderbolt 2 ports and offers a hardware RAID controller and a pair of hot-swap 6TB Seagate drives spinning at 7,200rpm which we featured yesterday here on Geeky Gadgets. This speed is particularly beneficial for professionals dealing with large files, such as video editors and graphic designers, who require quick access to their data without any lag.
The Thunderbolt 2 technology doubles the bandwidth of the original Thunderbolt, providing up to 20Gbps of throughput. This makes it possible to transfer a 4K video file in less than 30 seconds, significantly reducing waiting times and increasing productivity. The hardware RAID controller ensures data redundancy and reliability, which is crucial for businesses that cannot afford data loss.

LaCie also revealed that the five 2bigs can be Thunderbolt 2 daisy-chained with a 4K display to an Apple MacPro system to create an awesome 4K video workstation with a massive 72TB of raw storage capacity on hand for those larger projects.
