Apple is rumored to release three versions of the iPhone 8 this year and according to a recent report, all three models will come with wireless charging.
The three models will include a 4.7 inch iPhone 8 and two 5.5 inch versions of the iPhone 8 Plus, one of these will come with an OLED display.
Wireless Charging and Thermal Management
The news of wireless charging on the handsets comes from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has said that wireless charging increases the internal temperature of devices. Apple will apparently use a new 3D Touch module and some additional features to keep it cooler. Wireless charging is a highly anticipated feature, as it offers convenience and ease of use. However, it also presents technical challenges, particularly related to heat management.
While we don’t expect general users to notice any difference, lamination of an additional graphite sheet is needed for better thermal control and, thus, steady operation; this is because FPCB is replaced with film, which is more sensitive to temperature change of the 3D touch sensor in OLED iPhone.
To address these challenges, Apple is reportedly incorporating advanced thermal management solutions. The lamination of an additional graphite sheet is one such measure. This sheet helps in better thermal control, ensuring that the device operates steadily even when the internal temperature rises due to wireless charging. The replacement of FPCB (Flexible Printed Circuit Board) with a film makes the 3D Touch sensor more sensitive to temperature changes, necessitating these additional thermal management features.
OLED Display and Enhanced Features
One of the 5.5 inch iPhone 8 Plus models will feature an OLED display, a significant upgrade from the traditional LCD screens. OLED displays offer several advantages, including better color accuracy, higher contrast ratios, and improved energy efficiency. These displays are also thinner and more flexible, allowing for more innovative design possibilities.
The inclusion of an OLED display is expected to enhance the overall user experience, providing richer colors and deeper blacks. This will be particularly noticeable in applications like video streaming, gaming, and photo viewing. The OLED model is also likely to support HDR (High Dynamic Range), further improving the visual experience.
In addition to wireless charging and OLED displays, the new iPhones are expected to come with several other enhancements. These may include improved cameras, faster processors, and more advanced biometric security features such as facial recognition. The new 3D Touch module, combined with the OLED display, will likely offer a more responsive and immersive touch experience.
Anticipated Launch and iOS 11
We are expecting Apple to launch their new iPhones sometime in September, along with their next major iOS release in the form of iOS 11. The new iOS version is anticipated to bring a host of new features and improvements, further enhancing the functionality and user experience of the new iPhones.
iOS 11 is expected to include updates to Siri, making the virtual assistant more intelligent and capable. Other rumored features include a redesigned Control Center, improved multitasking capabilities, and enhanced augmented reality (AR) support. These updates will likely complement the hardware improvements in the new iPhones, offering a seamless and integrated user experience.
The upcoming iPhone 8 models are shaping up to be some of the most advanced smartphones Apple has ever released. With features like wireless charging, OLED displays, and enhanced thermal management, these devices are poised to set new standards in the industry. As we await the official launch, the excitement and anticipation continue to build.
