We have already seen a couple of videos comparing Apple’s new iPhone 5 to last year’s iPhone 4S, and now we have a video that shows both devices being tested side by side to see just how they compare.
The video below was put together by Michael Kukielka, and we get a good look at a number of different things, including some benchmarks running on both devices.
Performance and Speed
The iPhone 5 certainly looks to be quite a bit faster than last year’s iPhone 4S. This is largely due to the upgraded A6 chip in the iPhone 5, which offers significant performance improvements over the A5 chip found in the iPhone 4S. The A6 chip is not only faster but also more energy-efficient, which helps in extending battery life despite the increased performance.
In the video, various benchmarks such as Geekbench and browser speed tests are run on both devices. The iPhone 5 consistently scores higher, demonstrating its superior processing power and faster graphics performance. This makes a noticeable difference in everyday tasks such as opening apps, browsing the web, and playing games.
Design and Build Quality
Another area where the iPhone 5 stands out is its design and build quality. The iPhone 5 features an aluminum body, which is both lighter and more durable than the glass and stainless steel design of the iPhone 4S. This makes the iPhone 5 not only more aesthetically pleasing but also more practical for everyday use.
The iPhone 5 is also thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S, making it more comfortable to hold and use for extended periods. The larger 4-inch Retina display on the iPhone 5 offers more screen real estate compared to the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 4S, providing a better viewing experience for videos, games, and web browsing.
Camera and Battery Life
When it comes to the camera, both devices feature an 8-megapixel rear camera, but the iPhone 5 includes several improvements. The iPhone 5’s camera has better low-light performance and faster photo capture speeds, thanks to the improved image signal processor in the A6 chip. Additionally, the front-facing camera on the iPhone 5 has been upgraded to 1.2 megapixels, allowing for higher quality FaceTime calls and selfies compared to the VGA camera on the iPhone 4S.
Battery life is another area where the iPhone 5 excels. Despite being thinner and lighter, the iPhone 5 manages to offer similar, if not better, battery life compared to the iPhone 4S. This is achieved through the more efficient A6 chip and other optimizations in iOS.
Software and Features
Both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S run on iOS, but the iPhone 5 benefits from additional features and optimizations that take advantage of its more powerful hardware. For example, the iPhone 5 supports LTE connectivity, offering faster internet speeds compared to the 3G capabilities of the iPhone 4S. This makes a significant difference when streaming videos, downloading apps, or browsing the web.
The iPhone 5 also introduces the new Lightning connector, which replaces the 30-pin dock connector found on the iPhone 4S. The Lightning connector is smaller, more durable, and reversible, making it easier to use.
