Earlier we heard that Apple had released the latest beta version of iOS to developers, iOS 6.1 Beta 2, and now some more details have been revealed on what is included in the latest iOS 6.1 Beta.
iOS 6.1 Beta 2 features a new Passbook card that gives you more information about what the app is and what it can be used for, and it comes with a link to existing passbook apps available within the app store, plus the following explanation.
Passbook puts your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more all in one place. They’ll also be ready on your lock screen just at the right time and place. You can add passes to Passbook through apps, emails, and websites from participating airlines, theaters, stores and more.
Enhanced Features in iOS 6.1 Beta 2
In addition to the new Passbook card, iOS 6.1 Beta 2 includes several other enhancements and bug fixes aimed at improving the overall user experience. One of the notable updates is the improved Maps application, which now offers more accurate navigation and better integration with public transit information. This addresses some of the criticisms that Apple Maps received upon its initial release.
Another significant update is the enhanced Siri functionality. Siri can now provide more detailed sports scores, restaurant reservations, and movie information. This makes the virtual assistant even more useful for everyday tasks and queries. Additionally, developers have noted that the new beta includes performance improvements that make the operating system run more smoothly on older devices.
Developer Tools and API Updates
For developers, iOS 6.1 Beta 2 brings a range of new tools and APIs that can be used to create more dynamic and interactive applications. One of the key updates is the introduction of new MapKit APIs, which allow developers to integrate Apple Maps more seamlessly into their apps. This includes the ability to add custom overlays and annotations, providing a richer mapping experience for users.
The beta also includes updates to the PassKit API, which is used to create and manage passes in Passbook. These updates make it easier for developers to create passes that are more interactive and visually appealing. For example, developers can now include more detailed information on passes, such as barcodes and QR codes, which can be scanned directly from the Passbook app.
There are no details as yet on exactly when Apple will release the new iOS 6.1 to the rest of us, as soon as we get some more information we will let you guys know.
