We recently saw a teardown of the new iPad Mini and now it is the turn of the new iPad Air that Apple announced recently.
The updated iPad Air comes with a 10.5 inch display, the previous model features a 9.7 inch display, the display has a resolution of 2224 x 1668 pixels.
The device also comes with an Apple A12 Bionic processor and it features an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 7 megapixel front camera, you can choose from 64GB or 256GB of storage.
Performance and Features
The Apple A12 Bionic processor is a significant upgrade, offering enhanced performance and efficiency. This chip includes a six-core CPU, a four-core GPU, and an eight-core Neural Engine, which allows for advanced machine learning capabilities. This means that the iPad Air can handle more demanding applications and multitasking with ease. Whether you are editing videos, playing graphics-intensive games, or using augmented reality apps, the A12 Bionic chip ensures smooth and responsive performance.
The 8 megapixel rear camera is capable of capturing high-quality photos and 1080p HD video recording. The 7 megapixel front camera, also known as the FaceTime HD camera, is perfect for video calls and selfies. It supports features like Retina Flash, which uses the display to provide additional lighting in low-light conditions.
Design and Usability
The new iPad Air retains the sleek and lightweight design that Apple is known for. It weighs just one pound and is only 6.1mm thick, making it highly portable and easy to carry around. The 10.5 inch display is a Retina display with True Tone technology, which adjusts the white balance to match the ambient lighting, providing a more natural viewing experience. The display also supports the P3 wide color gamut, which means colors are more vibrant and true to life.
One of the standout features of the iPad Air is its compatibility with the Apple Pencil (1st generation) and the Smart Keyboard. This makes it a versatile tool for both creative professionals and students. You can take notes, draw, and sketch with the Apple Pencil, or use the Smart Keyboard for typing documents and emails.
The iPad Air also includes Touch ID, which is integrated into the top button. This provides a secure and convenient way to unlock the device, make purchases, and authenticate apps.
Repairability
The guys from iFixit score their devices from 1 to 10, 10 is very easy to repair and 1 is very difficult. The iPad Mini only managed to score 2 out of 10. No surprise then that the updated iPad Air only scored 2 out of 10 on the iFixit repair index, this means the tablet is difficult to repair.
The low repairability score is due to several factors. The display is fused to the front panel, making it difficult to replace without damaging other components. Additionally, the battery is glued in place, which complicates the replacement process. The use of proprietary screws and connectors also adds to the difficulty of repairing the device.
Despite its low repairability score, the iPad Air is a powerful and versatile tablet that offers a range of features and capabilities. Whether you are using it for work, study, or entertainment, it is designed to deliver a high-quality experience.
