Hotmail will soon be adding a features allowing account holders to create up to 5 extra email addresses attached to their account. Each new address will forward email directly to your master account but the extra addresses can then be used to signup to fourms or website when you might not want to disclose your main identity.
Other mail services already offer a similar service to their users but now Microsoft has recognised that most people have different email accounts for different online uses and has now made the job even easier combining up to 6 in total all into one account. Removing the need to have to remember individual passwords and logins for each account.
Windows Live director Dharmesh Mehta explains how the new feature could be used.
“Let’s say you’re in the market for a new car. There are a bunch of websites that will email you price quotes, sales alerts, etc. During your car search, these messages are helpful, but once you’re done, they become clutter that can be difficult to stop. By using an alias on these websites instead of your main email address, you can avoid this.”
