Honda has announced something cool for people who are building up a kit car that needs a compact yet powerful engine. The four-cylinder engine for the Civic Type R is now available to purchase as a crate engine for $6,500. The engines will be sold via the Honda Performance Development division.
The turbo four makes 306hp at 6,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque. While it wasn’t made clear, the engine is expected to come with all the wiring needed to install the motor. This might make the ultimate motor swap for a tired NA Miata or other project.
The catch is that you do need a valid racing license and results from your last two races to buy the engine. That bit is too bad, it would be cool to see this engine turn up in all sorts of project cars. At SEMA the engine is shown installed in a Civic Si coupe.
