When Hennessey sad that it was targeting over 300 mph, the cynic in us expected 301mph. It turns out that Hennessey is targeting a higher speed than that. The company wants the F5 to hit 311 mph. That would be 500 kph.
The car will need loads of power to do that, but with a twin-turbo 7.6L V8 it should be able to make all the power it needs. The engine is capable of 1,600hp and 1,300 lb-ft of torque. Engineers claim that the car will need 1,520hp to break 300 mph.
However much power the test car needs to break 300mph will be the number customer cars come with. The over 300mph record attempt is being planned right now. Venue options being considered include the Space Shuttle Landing facility in Florida, but it might not be long enough. That strip is 3.2 miles long, but in its 270.49 mph run it took two miles to get to speed and the last mile to stop. A closed highway in Nevada or Texas is the most likely location.
