Rockstar Games has confirmed this week that the Xbox 360 version of their new Grand Theft Auto 5 game will be shipped on 2 discs, however during gameplay you won’t need to swap them over.
Rockstar has revealed that the first GTA 5 disc holds 8 GB of data which is required for the mandatory install, putting owners of the 4 GB Xbox 360 console in the position where they will need an external hard drive to play the new Grand Theft Auto 5 game.
During a Grand Theft Auto 5 question and answer blog post Rockstar Games explained: “This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space,”-“If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance.”
Luckily for PlayStation 3 owners their console is equipped with a Blu-ray disc player that allows them to benefit from just one Grand Theft Auto 5 disc, that includes all the data required for the install and gameplay. Both the single PlayStation 3 disc and the multiple Xbox 360 discs will also include the Grand Theft Auto 5 multiplayer game and features.
Grand Theft Auto 5 will be launching on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th. However no information has been released on a PC version launch date or regards next generation consoles versions.
