The new Google+ social network currently under invitation only membership field trials at the moment, has now started rolling out a more flexible address book uploader which it will start to roll out to users over the next few weeks.
The new contact import feature within Google+ has been designed not to mix your imported contacts up with all of your other Google Contacts and will only store the ones that you put into your Circles.
