Google has confirmed that they will launch a Google Pixel 2 smartphone this year. The news was confirmed by Pixel boss Rick Osterloh in a recent interview with AndroidPit.
The Google Pixel 2 will follow on from the Pixel and will be a premium handset. It has not been confirmed as yet when the device will launch.
Expected Launch Timeline
Google launched their Pixel smartphones in October of last year, so it would make sense for the company to launch the new device around September or October 2017. This timeline aligns with Google’s typical release schedule, allowing them to capitalize on the holiday shopping season. The original Pixel was well-received for its camera quality and seamless integration with Google’s services, setting high expectations for its successor.
New Features and Specifications
Google will announce the next version of their Android OS at their Google I/O Developer Conference. The Pixel 2 is expected to be the first smartphone to launch with this new OS. This new version of Android is anticipated to bring several enhancements, including improved battery life, better performance, and new features that leverage Google’s advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
In terms of hardware, the Pixel 2 is rumored to feature a more powerful processor, possibly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which would offer significant improvements in speed and efficiency. Additionally, there are speculations about an upgraded camera system. The original Pixel was praised for its camera, and Google is likely to build on this strength with enhanced image processing capabilities and possibly dual-camera setups for better depth sensing and low-light performance.
Another area of interest is the design of the Pixel 2. While the original Pixel had a somewhat conventional design, the new model might adopt a more modern look with slimmer bezels and a higher screen-to-body ratio. This would make the device more competitive with other flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone X.
As soon as we get some more details on the new Google Pixel 2, including some specifications on the handset, we will let you guys know. The anticipation for the Pixel 2 is high, and it will be interesting to see how Google plans to differentiate its flagship phone in a crowded market.
