According to the Wall Street Journal Google is currently in the process of testing Google NFC internally authentication tokens made by Silicon Valley-based startup YubiKey.
The Google NFC YubiKey Neo tokens have been designed to provide a secure method of accessing your accounts and offer a service that require on PIN number to be entered.
To use the Google NFC YubiKey Neo token all you need to do is insert it into a USB port on your laptop or desktop computer. But with NFC support the key can simply be held near your smartphone or tablet device allowing you to easily login with the minimal amount of fuss. Check out the video below to learn more.
Google’s Mayank Upadhyay, a security director, explains a little more about the new Google NFC YubiKey tokens “raised the standard of security for [Google] employees beyond what was commercially available” starting that the solution works “very seamlessly for people in their day-to-day workflow”.
If your Google NFC YubiKey Neo token is ever lost or stolen you are able to disable the key via a support line if needed. Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet for the new Google NFC tokens, but as soon as information comes to light we will keep you updated as always.
