Depending on where you live, you may or may not get any snow this Christmas. Where I live, all we have at the moment is rain. It looks like Google has decided that we should have snow everywhere, and they have added a fun Easter egg to their search engine.
If you type ‘Let it Snow’ into Google, you will end up with the search results for ‘Let it Snow’. After a few seconds, it will actually start to snow on the Google page you have landed on. Have a look at the photo below.
The Magic of Google’s Easter Eggs
Google is well-known for its creative and often whimsical Easter eggs—hidden features or messages that are embedded within their software. These Easter eggs are a delightful way for Google to engage users and add a touch of fun to their browsing experience. The ‘Let it Snow’ Easter egg is a perfect example of this. When you type ‘Let it Snow’ into the search bar, not only do you get the usual search results, but you also get a charming snowfall animation that gradually covers your screen in a blanket of virtual snow.
If you leave the snow running for a while, the page will go almost white, simulating a heavy snowfall. At this point, you can press a button to ‘Defrost’, which will clear the snow and take you back to the search results. This feature not only adds a festive touch to the search engine but also showcases Google’s ability to integrate playful elements into their user interface.
Other Fun Google Easter Eggs
The ‘Let it Snow’ feature is just one of many Easter eggs that Google has hidden within its various platforms over the years. For instance, if you search for ‘do a barrel roll’, the search results page will perform a 360-degree spin. Similarly, typing ‘askew’ will tilt the search results page slightly to the right. These small, unexpected surprises are a testament to Google’s innovative spirit and their commitment to making the user experience enjoyable.
Another popular Easter egg is the ‘Google Gravity’ trick. By typing ‘Google Gravity’ and clicking on the ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ button, the entire Google homepage will collapse as if affected by gravity, allowing you to play around with the fallen elements. These Easter eggs not only entertain but also demonstrate the technical prowess and creativity of Google’s developers.
