Google is continuing the global roll out of its Android Pay mobile payment system and the latest country to get it is Taiwan.
Android Pay will be supported by a wide range of retailers in Taiwan and it is being supported by a range of banks at launch which include CTBC and First Bank, more banks will be added shortly.
Retailers Embracing Android Pay
Android Pay helps you pay for things quickly and securely with your Android phone, plus lets you earn all the same loyalty points you would with your card.
You’ll be able to use Android Pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted, including your favorite shops like PX Mart, Carrefour, Watsons, and more. Simply unlock your phone and hold it to the payment terminal until you see a “check.” It’s that easy. And businesses across that already have contactless terminals don’t need to do anything else to start accepting Android Pay in their stores.
In addition to these popular retail chains, smaller local businesses are also expected to adopt Android Pay, making it easier for consumers to make purchases without needing to carry cash or cards. This is particularly beneficial in Taiwan, where the convenience of mobile payments is becoming increasingly popular among tech-savvy consumers.
Banking Support and Security Features
At launch, Android Pay in Taiwan is supported by CTBC and First Bank, with more banks expected to join the platform soon. This broadening support from financial institutions will make it easier for a larger number of consumers to use the service. The inclusion of major banks ensures that a significant portion of the population can take advantage of the convenience and security that Android Pay offers.
Security is a major concern for many when it comes to mobile payments, and Android Pay addresses this with multiple layers of protection. Each transaction is encrypted, and your actual card number is never shared with the retailer. Instead, a virtual account number is used to represent your account information, adding an extra layer of security. Additionally, if your phone is ever lost or stolen, you can use the “Find My Device” feature to lock your phone from anywhere, secure it with a new password, or even wipe it clean of your personal information.

The introduction of Android Pay in Taiwan is part of Google’s broader strategy to expand its mobile payment services globally. As more countries adopt this technology, the ease and security of mobile payments are expected to drive higher adoption rates among consumers and retailers alike.
