Following on from the successful jailbreak of Google Glass by Jay Freeman, a hacker known as “Saurik” and creator of the Cydia app store which provides access to applications for jailbroken iPhones and iPads.
Google has now released the Google Glass kernel GPL source, allowing developers to get really stuck into the code that drives Google new Google Glass eyewear.
After the release of the Google Glass kernel items listed in the code spotted by Karthik’s Geek Center indicate that Google might be equipping their Google Glass eyewear with near field communication (NFC) support.
NFC technology allows smartphones and mobile devices to connect with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity. As more information is released regards news for Google Glass and it kernel we will keep you updated. Google explained on their website:
“Google Glass kernel GPL source. Currently there is a tarball of the kernel source in downloads. This is unlikely to be the permanent home for the kernel source, it should be pushed into git next to all other android kernel source releases relatively soon, at which point, i’ll update this notice. notle_defconfig should work as the kernel configuration target”
